It was found in santa margarita about 2 years ago. I don't know the details of the area. It sat out and exposure  sun and rain was and it was  once all in one piece and not pieces like it is now.  top and bottom.  It was just gonna sitting there and who knows eventually trown out.  If I hadn't asked for it and it was given to me.

Welcome to the Forum. :)

What is the size of this?

Can we see an image of the entire thing, from directly above?

Put it on the floor, fit all the pieces together, and take a picture with a ruler or yard stick/measuring tape next to the item.

Maybe outside would provide more lighting.

I am thinking this may be a partial Mesosaur???

It is a real shame that it was left out to weather and crack. It's a nice fossil.

also, if you could take photos with the light at a low angle and an individual photo of the skull block.  Looks like a great find.

Looks like most of a skull and a rib cage.

Croc maybe?

I too am seeing skull on left then ribs to right. Side lighting will help bring out details. Also a ruler of some sort to give size reference.

I agree, what a shame its been left out to weather.

Wow,

good thing you rescued it before it weathered even further!

I would guess dolphin if this is from the Miocene diatomite or sandstones from Santa Margarita.

Great call to take it. Very lucky to have been saved! That would be a major loss. Of course, if you decide its not worth keeping I know a place that would love it (my place :heartylaugh:)

Right.. :default_rofl: I'll keep that in mind.

Parts of the stone is so fragile that bones crumbling off some of the teeth were pulled  out.
