DavidA
I found this in the bank of the Iowa River amongst a nice collection of brachiopods. I have been trying to visualize an ancient living creature at the center of this rock, but I suspect my great discovery is nothing more than some type of weird rock. Would really appreciate your expertise and opinions! I have included photos of Left outside Right outside Middle Left middle Right middle Closeup Fossils from reference layer. Fossildude19
Welcome to the Forum. This looks like a chert nodule or concretion. 1 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." DavidA
Thanks guys! I was obviously hoping it would turn out to be a fossilized egg, but a chert nodule probably makes much more sense. Guess I’ll polish it up and turn it into a pair of earrings.
