Hello, I found this on the beach at Brighstone, Isle of Wight, UK.

It's renowned for fossil finds. I often find interesting stones and would love to know what they are.

It's a flint nodule. Nothing fossil visible I'm afraid - they come in all sorts of odd knobbly and bony shapes..

Thank you very much for letting me know. I shall return it to the beach and keep on looking for those dinosaur bones!

Hi Sylv, yes, I'd agree that it's sadly just a flint.
Talking of dinosaur bone, here's one I found a few years ago at your location on a guided fossil walk.

Notice the linear structures visible along the bone and the sort of pitted ends?  That's what you need to look for.

Thank you so much for showing me this. We intend to go on a guided fossil walk ourselves after lockdown and when they restart. But in the meantime I've now got a better idea what to look for thanks to you. We've just come back from the beach now. It was heaven, even in the rain!
