Early Jurassic plant fragment; East Berlin Formation in Connecticut

Recommended Posts

The first time I found this type of triangular marking I thought it was a broken off tip of a much larger plant fossil.

Five specimens later (all identical in size and shape including straight-edged base) and I'm now starting to think that this might be a possible pinnae to some sort of cycadophyte.

Illustration from the book Introduction to Plant Fossils; Cleal and Thomas. Early Jurassic, East Berlin Formation of Connecticut.

Thoughts and comments would be greatly appreciated.

I think it is a pinna of an Otozamites brevifolis

Can you see any striations on it, Paul?

Yes Tim, there are faint striations on this fossil fragment. The other specimens however have more defined striations. Thank you again for your comments!
