PKUK
Hi helpful people I'm not a fossil hunter but I found a really intriguing looking stone while fishing some time ago. The dug out pattern on one side puts me in mind of seeds in a pod. Pretty sure someone here will know what it is fossil or not. Found in the UK on a gravel pit. Thanks in advance for any help. FranzBernhard
Welcome to TFF from Austria! No idea, what this is (besides some kind of fossil). I just like to say, an intriguing specimen. Thanks for sharing. Franz Bernhard

Tidgy's Dad
Some sort of sponge in flint, perhaps? Whereabouts in the UK, please? 4 1 Life's Good! Tortoise Friend.

TqB
I agree it's a sponge, an external mould in flint. An unusual angle and rather nice, possibly Hallirhoa though I don't know if the surface structure could match that. The surface structure reminds me of percussion marks, probably partially eroded. 1 " We are not separate and independent entities, but like links in a chain, and we could not by any means be what we are without those who went before us and showed us the way. PKUK
Thanks for your time guys that's really interesting. So if I've understood it correctly I have a piece of well eroded flint that once had a fossilised sponge in it. Pretty cool.

Pretty cool. Yup, very cool. And a rather nice impression has been left by the sponge, it's a decent fossil. Edited March 31, 2021 by Tidgy's Dad Life's Good! Tortoise Friend.
