Large Hoof Core

I immediately thought toe bone or hoof core, but it did not look like Equus or Antiquus,  too big ( 2.5, 2.25, 1.6 inches) to be Camel/Llama or tapir... ).  I have looked around the forum and interent.  Tapir seems to be closest,  but I say that with little confidence.

With most of the cortex gone, Jack, you're left with a ball of unidentifiable trabecular bone.  If I had to make a stab in the dark, I might think of it as a sesamoid bone from one of the really-large animals.  Here are two from my collection:

:tiphat:Thanks, Harry.  I did not did not have a lot of hope on this one.  It seemed familiar, but nothing was going to match up. I was on my way to accepting just not knowing.

A sesamoid bone is at least a possibility. I sent my first to Richard Hulbert. I think I'll keep this one.
