Proximal phalanx?

I'm horrible with bones so could be way off on this.  Came from creek that's mostly QAL, it does not burn or smell and can't scratch it. Closest I could find is deer but they all look so similar!  It has a reddish color, is that from staining?

Yes, it is a toe bone and I think you are correct, it is probably from a deer.  I have attached a few pictures of the toe bones from my deer skeleton.  You can see it is most like the uppermost of the two toe bones and from the slant on the bigger surface, it is one of the outer toes.  The two pictures on the top are a left front foot and the two on the bottom are a left hind foot.  Sorry for the mess around it, I guess I need to clean in my garage. haha  You are right, many of the toe bones of related animals look very similar, so without more detailed examination and comparing, it could be something else similar, but that is a very logical choice for where you are.
