Suspect Megalodon tooth

Recommended Posts

Came across this piece on the internet. While I doubt it's entirely fake. Something is not right with this one, I just don't know what

I agree. The root/most of the root and the middle of the bourlette is either from a completely different tooth, or more likely, just fake. You can see the sharp contrast between the side of the bourlette and the middle.

At this resolution, I can't discern any foul play. I don't think the color variation in this bourlette is cause for concern. For comparison, one of my ginsu teeth:

The shape definitely has something funky or 'off' feeling to it. I would be concerned about the area near the tip where the serrations are missing yet it still feels (sharp) and not weather worn or rounded. Was the tip added later ? .. or was it broken and repaired ? etc. Best just to pass on these until you can find one that does not raise any red flags.
