What is this? and why is it red?

Hi there, I’m a complete newbie and am excited to have found a bone... but can anyone help me understand what it might be from and why it is red?

Recent bone? Will a small portion burn in an open flame? Caution, an outside activity because of the smell.

 

The color may be from iron in the soil.
