Hello all, I was digging boulders out of our creek at our ranch and came across this Boulder with what looked like fossilized bone protruding. I have zero knowledge on such things and was hoping someone could help me identify if it even is a fossil and what it might be. Our ranch is located near camp wood, TX and the Boulder was pulled from bullhead creek.

Thalassanoides I think for the large features. The smaller holes look like pholad bivalve borings.

Welcome to the forum! It kind of looks like chert to me. We see a lot of very similar structures in the Ordovician sedimentary rocks here in Minnesota. I was out fossil hunting with @minnbuckeye the first time I came across it. I was disappointed because I thought I had found a coprolite until we cracked it open.

If that was from Minnesota, I also would say chert. Could Lori and I both be wrong???? We will see!

Texan here...definitely limestone with Chert nodules. Very common in your area.  Some fossils can be found in the Edwards limestone, but most of the time it is just limestone and flint/chert.
