Was really thinking freeway travel center souvenirs when I found this one :default_faint:any help would be great.. I did enhance the images just a bit as in contrast and brightness to better show it.

I'm not seeing a fossil here, sorry.

Maybe someone else will recognize it as something, but I'm thinking it's just geological.

Arthropods have been preserved in this manner. The preservation is rather rare however. I'm afraid I don't see it here either.

I can see what you're seeing. The shape is approximate, but the substance is stone/mineral. I've seen more distinct shapes in clouds.

Would make sense, I have been looking at the ground.

I am certain of what I see and will take better photos and proper dimensions asap then would you please give it one more look? I sincerely appreciate your input and your time.

I am not seeing a fossil here. I see an area of the surface of the rock that has been worn smoother than the rest.

The photos are well clear enough.

You may be certain of what you believe you see but there is no fossil here. The natural phenomenon of pareidolia is what is responsible for your pattern matching circuits in your brain trying to make this into something recognizable. It's the same process that allows us to see images in clouds or faces in rock profiles.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pareidolia

Knowing the age of the potentially fossil-bearing rocks exposed in your area can help to narrow down the types of fossils that are actually possible to find in your area. For example. Florida was underwater during the entire rein of the dinosaurs so we are bereft of dino fossils here.

Your rock appears to have a high silica content (based on its shiny surface) and those can form or erode in interestingly textured surfaces. That's all that is going on here. Looking forward to what else you have found but this one is not a fossil (scorpion or otherwise).

Cheers.

the mind is good at recognizing patterns even when they are only suggested.  sometimes that pattern recognition is great when it lets you see a bone or tooth that is half buried, but it also leads me to investigate alot of bits of shell or phosphate pebbles that are not fossils.  You may want to look at the topic on pareidiolia.
