Oligocene Dolphin

Recommended Posts

I just finished up preparation on this amazing Oligocene dolphin.  It is from the Ashley formation and is a real beauty.  I made the decision not to completely remove it from the matrix, as I believe it is more aesthetic this way..  It was missing the last 3 inches of the pre-maxilla so that had to be restored but we did find a few other teeth in the matrix.

You did a great job! I love the row of teeth you found in the matrix- it really brings it to life!

If it from the Ashley fm, is this from the East coast (SC)?  .. has it been identified ? It looks amazing.

Cheers,

It is from the East coast.  It is similar to two describes species but has some differences.

I'm assuming @Boesse knows about this specimen. :)

Looks great. Haven't seen you posting much here lately. Glad to see you back and showing such great envious eye candy.

Life has been crazy for the last year and now things are beginning to return back to normal.

This would have been such a great study specimen. Looks like it's got a tympanic bulla.
