Was this rock burned?

I have this rock from my yard that looks like it’s covered in iron and something else, but below that it looks like it’s been burned.

The black stuff you're talking about is probably manganese, it occurs commonly with iron.

Then I would assume the rocks in the front that appear to have veins, is where the iron and manganese got into fractures?
