Hello. I started collecting fossils last year, and I got this dinosaur egg.

I want to know if this fossil is real and detailed species.

This egg is from Nanxiong Formation, China.

Size approximately 8.4 inches.

Welcome to TFF from Austria!

Not an eggspert, but looks good.

- Shell structure is continuous across fragments.

- Fragments fit nicely together; can not be excluded that some shell fragments have been glued back, but it seems that all fragments originally did belong the this particular egg. In other words, I can not spot foreign shell fragments.

- Infill of egg locks good.

- Incompleteness is a good sign.

- In my personal eyes, a very nice, authentic specimen! But I am unable to judge overall quality.

The egg is real and its an Elongatoolithidae type egg.   Oviraptorids have been attributed to this type egg in the Nanxiong Formation.

  • I found this Informative 2
