Puzzled by this one.

I found this on a sandy river bank on the Trinity River near Liberty Texas.  I have previously found a number of teeth and leg bones from pleistocene horses in the same area.  This is a fascinating little piece but I have no idea as to its identity.  Maybe an inner ear bone?  Any help would be appreciated.  Maybe it is just a piece of wood, there are a lot of pieces of petrified wood here, but I don't think so.

Thanks,

Craig

Thank you.  I never thought of that one.  There are, and presumably have been, lots of catfish in this river.  I'll see if anyone has any other ideas, but I see some similarities

Further research online makes me think that Harry was correct.  The long pointed spine was broken off leaving the stub.   It would have been very long I presume.  There are some very large catfish in the river today, 40 or 50 lbs are not that unusual.  Who knows what monsters swam in prehistory?  This forum was a great help.  It nagged at me.  Thanks a lot.  I may run some other mysteries by the group.
