Hi Everyone - I came across this Camarasaurus vertebra and was curious how much restoration has been done to it. I'm trying to train my eye for Morrison Formation material which can be a little tricky :zzzzscratchchin:.

  • Camarasaurus Tail Vertebrae
  • Jurassic (145 Million – 155 Million Years Ago)
  • Morrison Formation - Wyoming
  • 4 1/4" long

Thanks for taking a look!

It looks good from here.  There is some kind of coating there to hold it together, but I do not see any reconstruction.

PS, the grammar police would like to inform everyone that a single vert is a vertebra.  Vertebrae is the plural.

Ah very good, thanks for the input. Do send my apologies to the grammar police. Guilty as charged :)

I called the grammar police... they are happy to educate and are smiling.

  • Bguild changed the title to Camarasaurus Vertebra Restoration

Does the process look natural? Albeit a little rough around the edges

Let me start by saying I'm not familiar with Morrison Formation or sauropod material at all. But this does indeed look good to me. I don't see any repairs or reconstruction. It just appears from the shine that, as jpc already noted, a consolidant has been applied to strengthen the fossil and protect it from decay.
