My digital art depictions of prehistoric life

Recommended Posts

I recently got an Apple Pencil and Procreate for my Birthday and have gotten the hang of digital art.  Here are some of my depictions of prehistoric life with the use of digital art.  I will continue to update this topic.

Very cool! Amazing what one can do nowadays with a bit of know-how.

Thank you and I agree, I thought I would fail with it as I only did transitional.  But after practice I’ve impressed even myself!

Thank you, I have a two personal favourites, one I can’t share right now due to reasons I will explain when time comes, and another that’s still a work in progress.

Hi Dinosaur man,

these are good drawings indeed. I like the colour patterns very much, especially on the Teratophoneus. They look like animals do.

So please do not get me wrong when I offer some advice. Its because I think you have a very good start there and you will be able to increase even more.

(I am not  great at drawing myself, thats why I build models)That said, there are two things that could add enormously to your drawing in my opinion: Perspective and shading.

Perspective in anatomy is a chapter of its own.

But shading, at least enough to make it look 3d-ish, has become much more easy with digital drawing.

Here are two tutorials  (out of dozens) that may help you if you like to look into it.  The same techniques you use for the colour patterns apply to shading.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EsFf9mQ0Upo

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zs7jfL_Gpfg

The same principles apply to the whole animal and each osteoderm.

Again, I say this because I like your drawings and would like to see them take the next step.

Best Regards,

J

Thank you for the information!  I love criticism, I’ll take all this into account when finishing this piece:

Hi,

although I myself am a fan of high realism, that one as well as the Haplocanthosaurus do have a nice degree of abstraction. Nice work on the foliage also.

My only point of critique for Scutellosaurus is that the scutes dont follow the contour of the extremities.

Keep going!
