Middle Devonian, Seneca Cnty., NYS, Kashong Member(?).  When I look at this rock it looks as though there are 3 kinds of Bryozoans.  The first photo is of the rock itself...the 2nd photo include lines of what I see as different Bryozoans.  The Blue line (3rd photo) shows pronounced verticle lines, Red line (4th photo) shows "elongated" structures and Green line(5th photo) shows square structures.  Am I looking at it wrong?  Id would be helpful as well as clarification on what I think I see.

Thanks

Greg

Are you saying they are all the same?

The green and red circled items I'd say are the same. The blue area may just be part of the fundament of this one.

  • Fossildude19 changed the title to Bryozoa help

So perhaps the Green circled one stretched/warped when it fell/fossilised?  Or possibly just the way I'm looking at it.

Probably not. This type of bryozoan is an encruster. The slightly longer zooecia may simply be the way its lattice grew over whatever it was encrusting.
