Vae70
Hi folks, newbie looking for some help IDing finds from a couple of trips to the NJ brooks. I think I have the correct IDs on most of what I have collected but am stumped on the largest tooth I have found as well as a couple of others Mystery tooth anterior view Mystery tooth posterior view Categorization page #1 Top to bottom - Goblin Shark / Ammonite Fragment / Crab or Lobster claw piece / Sawfish Rostral Teeth / Crow Shark Categorization page #1 Top to bottom - Goblin Shark (Lateral) / Teeth I can't ID / big mystery tooth / random fragments The ??? section represents teeth I can't ID using the available material on fossilguy's site, most appear to be similar Thanks,
Fossildude19
The claw is probably from a ghost shrimp. The large tooth looks like a Scapanorhynchus texanus missing the root. Allodon
The big tooth and most of the other questionable ones look like more worn examples of goblin shark teeth to me. From the picture you posted, it looks like the two you have labeled as sawfish rostra might also be worn goblin shark teeth. I also think that at least the biggest of the teeth you have labeled as goblin shark lateral might belong to the Mackerel shark, Archaeolamna kopingensis. For more pictures and more in-depth details about big brook shark teeth and other fossils I always start with these 2 sites: http://www.njfossils.net/cover.html http://www.fossilsofnj.com/shark/sharks_main.htm Awesome finds!
