kris.lyon
I saw this fossil for sale in Colorado labeled as a Archaeopteryx (second picture) by it it looks nothing like an Archaeopteryx. I google image searched the picture and the only look alike was on a website for Japanese travel photos (first picture) and I believe it was at a dinosaur museum in Japan. I'll put both pictures below! Please help me identify
Misha
Both items look like fabrications to me, not real fossils

FranzBernhard
These are both casts of one and the same animal. Edit: I got it completely wrong: These are not casts, these are artwork inspired probably by a Cotylorhynchus fossil. At least the "non-flying" seems to be correct... Franz Bernhard I would put "animal" in quotes. Pretty sure this is not a cast of a real fossil. 1 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." What do you think: A skeleton was carved (or assembled from various bones?) and than casts made? Or another process? What was it intended to represent? Surly not an Archaeopterix... I think, I have seen that before somewhere else, but maybe here on TFF. Franz Bernhard

Misha
@FranzBernhard @Fossildude19 I think it is roughly based on a Cotylorhynchus fossil, because it has a similar shape and position but it's definitely not a realistic depiction of any animal
FranzBernhard
Thanks so much, @Misha! There is indeed some similarity! Thank you!! And I got it wrong - these two pieces of artwork are not casts from the same original. The mystery, why it is "named" Archaeopterix, still remains...
