Possible bryozoan from Coldwater Shale

Does anyone have any ideas as to what makes this sort of pattern? The opposite side was just a plain, smooth clay deposit.

Found this Coldwater Shale piece in South Haven, Michigan, along the shores of Lake Michigan.

I did have someone suggest Fenestate bryozoan. When I tried looking it up though, I found a ton of variants.

The two dimensional look does suggest fenestrate, but the organization of the pattern looks more tabulate coral to me. I think the colony was preserved as barely more than a two dimensional mold of it's surface.

It's a nice specimen.

In my opinion it is a fenetrate bryozoan, but not actually Fenestella. The group was pretty varied I don't know the species in this formation, but I think it could be one of them.
