bluefish1766
Hi all My kids and I found this piece at the NSR and saw that there were multiple bone fragments in it. Do you all think that there is a fish jaw in the lower right portion of the specimen? If so, can anyone tell from which type of fish it is? Thanks in advance! Rockwood
I don't think this looks like bone or tooth. I'm not quite sure what it does look like though.
jdp
Yes that definitely is a fish jaw! Very nice catch! I can't offer an ID though. Hopefully someone with some Cretaceous expertise can suggest something
ThePhysicist
Cool find! I'm thinking fish as well. It's most likely Enchodus sp., the "saber-toothed herring." ^http://oceansofkansas.com/Enchodus.html 4 "Argumentation cannot suffice for the discovery of new work, since the subtlety of Nature is greater many times than the subtlety of argument." - Carl Sagan "I was born not knowing and have had only a little time to change that here and there." - Richard Feynman Collections: Hell Creek Microsite | Hell Creek/Lance | Dinosaurs | Sharks | Squamates | Post Oak Creek | North Sulphur River | Lee Creek | Aguja | Permian | Devonian | Triassic | Harding Sandstone Instagram: @thephysicist_tff
Thomas.Dodson
I'd second Enchodus. The half worn teeth make it a bit more difficult but I'd expect Enchodus.
Mahnmut
I wonder what that elongate shape on the left side in pics 1&3 is? Try to learn something about everything and everything about something Thomas Henry Huxley

I would assume it is part of the fish's jaw or skull.
