Not sure about others, but I realize that I am finding bones that I have yet to recognize, but think might be alligator.Bones.thumb.jpg.1efa64674b56ce34b315f933dc8d328f.jpg

Found this nice comparison photo...

What is the name of these bones? Are they ribs?

Did I find one of them here?

A couple more.

I think the 2nd photo is a Calcaneum, what is the first and is either this bone?

Hi Shellseeker,

yes, the first ones are ribs and I think your find may well be one of those (bigger one with missing ends).

The first pic in your second post shows bones of the pectoral and pelvic girdle, 2 scapulae on top, I think one ischium lower left, 2 pubes lower right. Not sure what your find there is.

Best Regards,
J

It is very interesting.  You know more about Alligator anatomy than I do , living in Florida where they existed in the Miocene, and exist now. Thank you for the names of the bones. I can then search the internet to see what those fossil bones look like.     Jack

Hi Jack. Thanks for the flowers.

I am just a nerd in that regard. Nature-nerd. Besides I spent some time learning anatomy, being a medical doctor. Comparative anatomy is a hobby of mine. When you try to build a model of an animals skeleton you have to look closely at a lot of illustrations (which come labelled, in contrast to your fossils). That hobby on the other hand is only a substitute for real fossil hunting, because I am not as lucky as you are regarding collecting opportunities.:envy:
