6-Day Road Trip from Evergreen Colorado to anywhere in Utah. Would love your ideas!

Hello,

I'm taking my son (9 years) on a 6 day road trip from Evergreen, Colorado to anywhere in Utah. We're avid fossil hunters and spend a lot of time looking in Colorado.

We're going to do a trip to Utah and i'm building out the itinerary now. At this point, we're entirely flexible. That said, since it's just a few days, I was thinking about focusing on the Moab area and then heading back home through Telluride.

Would love your ideas for places we should go or stop along the way.

Thank you in advance, we really appreciate it!!

Dan

"The U-Dig Fossils Quarry" is a good place to go. It is an amazing trilobite quarry, it does cost money though.

I believe Douglas Pass shouldn't be too far off your route, and if you stay on the southern half of the state on your way back and then turn north on I-25 you could hit Florissant near Colorado Springs

Technically Douglass Pass is in CO, but the same beds are available at Bonanza, UT if you want Eocene leaves and insects.  U dig is a must if your goal is Utah.  And there are some great museums in the Salt Lake City area.

I took two trips in that area in 2019 and visited Douglas Pass, U-Dig, and one of the private fossil fish quarries near Kemmerer. All of those I would recommend.

U-Dig is a good bet.  The House Range is THE spot for Cambrian trilobites.  There are many, easy to find, spots in the House Range to collect at.   If you search these posts for House Range and Utah you will find a large amount of info on sites .
