Need help identifying an odd find on the beach in Galveston Texas.

Found a few days ago on the beach in Galveston Texas, it had some build up of sediment around it and I cleaned it up to be left with what I believe is a fossilized/petrified sea turtle.

Any thoughts or ideas on what it may actually be and or an idea on possible age?

Hi There and welcome to the forum. Galveston Texas is fairly well known for its fossil crabs. Not sure the species but that is what you have here. We see them pop up fairly often on TFF on Facebook. Or at least I notice them as an uncommon find.

I appreciate your response.

Sure .. here is a PDF paper that may shine some light on the crabs from the Beaumont formation.

Some decapods (Crustacea; Brachyura and Stomatopoda) from the Pleistocene Beaumont Formation of Galveston, Texas

To my eyes maybe it is a 'Purse Crab' (Persephona aquilonaris) - or something similar

Very nice Persephona.    Also Pleistocene is just fine, still a fossil and a decent one.

Yes, crab. Looks like Persephona. That is the one that has eluded me! Dying to find one there. Great find! I am attaching a picture of some of my Galveston crab collection. Sure would look good in one of these cases;)

Nice. How many species do you have in the cases?

Wow, that is amazing ... I'm just astounded that they don't get destroyed in the surf. And unlike the crabs of the Pacific Northwest, no prepping !
