Hi, is this an amonite or part of a concretion sphere? I’m not sure where it was found. Many thanks

This is an irregular echinoid, possibly something like Clypeus ploti from Gloucestershire. I have one very much like it.

Come to think of it It was found in Gloucestershire when I lived in Cirencester! Do you have any more information please? Cheers Kevin

Well, mine came from the Gilbert's Grave road cut, which was near Cheltenham if I recall.

It's Upper Inferior Oolite, Parkinsoni Zone, the Cypeus Grit, but these are old names that may have changed.

Brilliant you’re obviously well up on the subject ... it’s all very new to me. Thank you for the information. Cheers Kevin

I had a book called "Finding Fossils" that listed the location. My mother drove me there as part of my seventeenth birthday present, nearly forty years ago. I found bits and pieces of a dozen or so Clypeus ploti and one or two complete ones.:)

Mum sat in the car and ate all the fruit jellies that were also part of my birthday present.

I mean every one of 'em. Angry.gif.078e8ed0ea299a55d538d5429ee8ea29.gif
