jikohr
Cool piece! Do you know what age or formation? That helps IMMENSLY with fossil id.
Thomas.Dodson
As opposed to bone this appears to something along the lines of chert. The various things you see inside it are fossils. For example, The textured pattern on the right in the first image is probably a bryozoan and image #2 shows a crinoid columnal. These are paleozoic fossils that may have been transported from further North. I'm not particularly aware of the formations in Lousiana yet but I know glacial gravel containing paleozoic fossils are well known in Lousiana. This link from LSU is a little basic but I came across it researching bedrock outcrops in Louisiana. https://www.lsu.edu/mns/files/activities/fossilgravels.pdf 1 1
Fossildude19
Not bone, but it looks like chert, to me. 1 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks."
