X-fish

Recommended Posts

I found this specimen in the smoky hill chalk in Lane Co. KS. From what I can tell, it appears to be a fragment of a fish fin (though I definitely could be wrong). Does anyone have any ideas?

thanks in advance

A ruler for size would be helpful, I have no idea what that stick represents.  Maybe picture from another angle also will help in ID.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that the scale was the millimeter side of a ruler. the specimen is 57mm long.

Looks more like fish bone. Possibly part of a shoulder/pelvic girdle.

Keep in mind that fish fins are made of many many small thin long straight bones, as opposed to this one single bone.  I agree that it is fish, but not a fin.
