University of Alaska, Museum of the North

Recommended Posts

My wife and I recently traveled to Fairbanks, Alaska for a mini vacation and toured the Museum of the North on the University of Alaska, Fairbanks campus. It brought back some old memories as I completed my undergraduate training there in 1986. Here are a few pictures from the displays that I found interesting.

The hadrosaurs display is fairly new and in the entryway 8A0C0F50-F513-45A8-853D-F5C4A389C5D3.thumb.jpeg.3ef725f770a69d94f707262f788117ee.jpeg771CA922-30DB-4201-BDA3-0D2B3949FE56.thumb.jpeg.d86f685bea7d2397f161510261668bcc.jpeg1A18955C-8892-495D-86B2-B3420E1590F8.thumb.jpeg.00054f1010ef120f340029e5744bebb5.jpeg Mammoth display

Sadly it was not on display. I got the contact information for the curator and will see if I can get a look and pictures of it next time I’m in Fairbanks. I signed up for a 3 day course by Alaska Geographic-Paleontology in Denali with Patrick Drunkenmiller the Director of the University of Alaska Museum of the North and will ask him about it next month. This should be an interesting field course in Denali National Park to see dinosaur trackways there and learn about the current research.

That should be great course indeed.  Pat is fun and knowledgable.

Great stop! I've still not made it there. Talked to Pat a few times and he seems a great guy! I would love to go on that study!
