Unknown thing

My son found this in the same spot or general area as the ammonite thingy.  They both have similar markings as well which is odd to me I guess. It's about 3" long and 1 " wide at its widest.

From what I can see from these pictures this one is just a rock. The black branching pattern you see might be dendrite crystals. It's difficult to tell from these photos but they're not fossils.

It was found while removing a deep rooted tree. This was in Royse City in Hunt County.
