Sally Rose
I found this fossil on our property in Puriscal, Costa Rica. I found it on the ground after moving some dirt from the berm next to a ditch. This ditch was dug by hand for us several years ago. The previous owner backhoed this area to flatten it. but couldn't go any farther due to the enormous rock. I am posting here because I want opinions if this is petrified wood, or bone. It measures about 10cm long, diameter about 8cm. There is a crystal formation on one end. Rockwood
Root trace, or rhizolith, as it's known. The soil that hardened around a root. Seems like a reasonable guess. It's a low confidence ID though. 2
Sally Rose
Thanks for your suggestion Rockwood. I wasn't aware of rhizolith and after looking at some photos on the internet, I agree with you it could be that.
