Thunderchunky
I have two unknown fossils one being a tooth and the other I believe is a ray mouthplate/jaw bone. Sorry about the photo quality on the mouth plate it had a strange shape. Thanks
Thunderchunky
So the thing I thought was a tooth was actually a astragalus but I'm still not 100% sure if the other is a ray mouth plate or not.
Coco
Hi, The first fossil is not an astragalus. See here for an example : https://science.mnhn.fr/institution/mnhn/collection/f/item/pik1695 About the second fossil, no ray dental plate either : no enamel, it makes me think more of a part of this shell. Sorry, in paleontology, nature often plays with us ! fifbrindacier
I agree with a part of shell for the second one. "On ne voit bien que par le coeur, l'essentiel est invisible pour les yeux." (Antoine de Saint-Exupéry) "We only well see with the heart, the essential is invisible for the eyes." In memory of Doren

Do you know what kind of shell the second fossil could've belonged to? Or is it too mangled? Harry Pristis
In the second to the last image, the structure seems to include a stack of ossicles from a starfish. 1 http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest

Ah that would make sense, some of the pictures of prehistoric starfish do match the structure. Thank you!
