Geological age from GPS coordinates?

Sometimes I find myself at a site, say a road cut, where I want to look for fossils but don’t know the local geology. (For “sometimes,” read “often.”) But I always have my phone, so I can get the GPS coordinates where I am. Is there a way to go from GPS coordinates to geologic age of a location? If there is, it’ll be a lot easier to know what sort of fossils I might expect to find.

If you go to an online geologic map, such as the ones in this thread,

I use, https://ngmdb.usgs.gov/mapview/?center=-97,39.6&zoom=4 which allows you to search in the top right corner and you can put in GPS coordinates to find the exact spot.

Many more geo map apps to choose from.  I use Rockd. I hear Mancos is good too. In the field you will need connectivity.  I mark locals and then look them up later. Always compare to the written descriptions to confirm strata and age. The map apps are only so accurate: GIGO still holds.
