_tblock_
Hey all, I found this in a South Jersey creek gravel bed. The particular spot is in the Navesink bedrock formation, but I'm unsure of how exposed it is (if at all.) I haven't found much in the way of fossils in this particular spot except a possible burrow and a possible oyster shell. I initially thought it was an odd looking concretion, but I cleaned it up and had second thoughts. It's extremely porous (passed the tongue test), which made me think bone. It's also very heavy. Please let me know if more pictures or information would help. Thank you in advance!
Fossildude19
Welcome to the Forum. This looks like some sort of shell conglomerate, to me. Not sure much more can be said about it. 1 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks." Rockwood
Do I see a trace of volcanic ash in the mix ? Like it may be an eratic shuffled down from on of the eroding archipelagos which were pasted to the eastern side of the continent in the formation of Pangea.
The Jersey Devil
Hi, there is a piece of Cliona sponge seen at the second from last pic. The last pic has some shell casts. 1 “You must take your opponent into a deep dark forest where 2+2=5, and the path leading out is only wide enough for one.” ― Mikhail Tal
