River Thames potential fossil?

Hi all,

hoping you might be able to help me identify this tooth-looking thing I found whilst mud-larking the Thames.

Some info:

-It is about two inches long

-The black and white part is shiny like a tooth and the brown part is more matte

I have no experience in this field, so I’d be grateful to hear any thoughts you have, and if it even is a fossil at all

Welcome to TFF from Austria!

Very nice, rooted tooth! I don´t know which animal it belonged to and it could also be a modern/recent tooth, but I am not sure.

More knowledgeable members sure will comment, too.

Anyway, nice find and a keeper!

Franz Bernhard

Hi,

I think it could be dolphin or cetacean. @Boesse

That’s so cool, CoCo. Thank you for the suggestion, I’ll try and do some digging!

I agree with @Harry Pristis - this immediately screamed 'terrestrial carnivore' to me and canid in particular. Given that it's the UK fox is also a possibility, perhaps unlikely due to the size, though.
