My husband purchased this landscaping rock in a pallet from a Bath/Bethlehem, PA area supplier about 20 years ago. Most of the supplier’s stones are from Pennsylvania. I’m guessing this is sandstone??? I’ve been staring at this rock for sometime and before I place it back, I wanted to get some opinions if anyone sees any type of tracks on this rock? I feel like my fingers fit in the specimen very nicely. Can’t tell if I’m seeing 3, 4 or 5 “toes” ? Maybe I’m just an imaginative newbie.
Thanking anyone in advance who looks at these photos.5D06D7C3-FE22-4339-B280-0AFED49583AD.thumb.jpeg.727a348854c2f78cc6e47f00d3fabda1.jpegBA43593C-4EC7-4A69-AE4F-2BA7060BA1E3.thumb.jpeg.0226a99d7ca09b7af9be948120ece189.jpeg15A806EA-8FB2-40AA-9B03-DEA1559F85E6.thumb.jpeg.a216961680efa15b37379ef213322751.jpeg04DA68DD-8358-41B1-9D11-3CC49169DFA6.thumb.jpeg.9fe3a9971c9cb3aabe1f61bbd8867ed3.jpeg15A806EA-8FB2-40AA-9B03-DEA1559F85E6.thumb.jpeg.a216961680efa15b37379ef213322751.jpeg5D06D7C3-FE22-4339-B280-0AFED49583AD.thumb.jpeg.727a348854c2f78cc6e47f00d3fabda1.jpeg

I am not seeing a track here, unfortunately.

This could be some kind of sedimentary structure. :headscratch:

It does look like sandstone, but if they are from the Bath/Bethelehem area, the outcrops there are too old to have any kind of footprint fossils.

Actually Dinosaur tracks have been found on paving stones in Pa before and tracks have been found in Valley Forge National park.

These tracks do resemble what she has here.

But, those were in areas with Triassic aged rocks.  ;)

I actually have an Atreipus dinosaur track from PA. It is from the Triassic sediments, and looks nothing like the OP's item.

OP states that the rocks came from the Bath/Bethlehem area of PA - in Northampton County. Ordovician/Cambrian.

Here is what I am seeing:

Thank you for your information. I did review the Valley Forge tracks in photos before and didn’t think they were the same, but being only an hour away made me very curious. My sandstone is more of a beige color and not the reddish sandstone or mudstone that is found in the Valley Forge area of Montgomery County. See above map. Still holding on to it.
