rockngirl
On the large rock, the fourth picture jpg 142641 has gash marks, equal size, there are also depression around each gash mark. I am new to this stuff, but with all my searching I have yet to come up with a answer. Is is a fossil organ with claw marks? The outer and inner appearance are unlike rocks I have seen. My last rock (rectangular) I also have not had any luck with identification. The big rock was found in southeast Idaho, the rectangular rock was found in Succor Creek. I am guessing a plant but would love some feedback! Thank you! Edited July 10, 2021 by rockngirl added photos
abyssunder
Hello, If I'm not wrong, the first rock is a silex type rock ( chert, flint, etc) with nice percussion marks on the outer side. Picture from here And one more picture with percussion marks, from UK: Edited July 11, 2021 by abyssunder 1 " We are not separate and independent entities, but like links in a chain, and we could not by any means be what we are without those who went before us and showed us the way. rockngirl
abyssunder, thank you. To clarify, Are you saying you think that the big gashes in the rock are from arrowhead making? Do you have any idea about the second picture, the rectangle one? Thank you!!

Do you have any idea about the second picture, the rectangle one? In my opinion, the big gashes are natural/geological features of the rock, not from arrowhead making. No clue about the second specimen.
