Plant fossil?

Caroboneferous

Recommended Posts

I found this fossil with a bunch of Carboniferous fossils in on the Missouri River near Kansas City.  I’m curious to see what it is?   Looks like a plant, but I’m not sure, any ideas?   The whole thing is 2.5-3 inches long.

I'd call it a root trace.

It would be interesting if so, thanks!

I just realized that many of those plants sort of blurred the lines between roots and stems. I don't think it need be subsurface as might be thought.

I found a similar fossil in the same area.

It looks like it could possibly be connected somehow to the whole system?

I've read that things like this have been found which seem to indicate that a nearby tree was climbed by a vine like plant.

If you could find a stump ?
