She found the first fossil slab and showed it to her Phd geologist husband who has published papers in paleontology. She deserves most of the credit. He was called an amateur paleontologist: ouch!

They still did it on their own as a hobby, so why not amateur? Amateurs are exactly those who do not receive payment for what they do. A very good example of how amateurs actually help science not just stealing fossils how some scientists still tend to think

Seems to be the best combination of several worlds:

- a professional geologist / paleontologist, but also interested in fossil hunting (aka field work).

- married to a women with a deep interest in fossils and fossil hunting.

- both doing this on their own expense, that means, they are doing the really important things .

 

They should be strictly considered and featured as couple (= teamwork).

As far as I understood from the very first link posted (can not watch the videos), they get bored during lockdown, he (only he?) spend some time on the PC searching for new fossils site. Found a promising spot. She found/took the first sample, not looking like very much. He prepped it and called her over to look what he as uncovered. The rest is history, as they say .

 

It is strictly Teamwork, and should always be considered as such!
