Fossil tooth - bovine, horse?

We found this today at the beach near Venice, Italy (Adriatic Coast). So far we've determined it is a tooth from either a cow or an equine species. We burned it with a lighter - it does smell burnt, so probably not fossilized. Does anybody know the species?

I'll tag one of our experts to assist... @Harry Pristis

The burn test is not terribly good for determining teeth being modern or fossilized, to my understanding, as the burn test determines if there is the presence of collagen.

It appears to be a left M1 from a modern horse.

Thanks for the amazingly quick and precise answer. You could've been only more specific if you would have told me the horse's name!

Never seen a horse tooth in my life before. The kids are excited about it, it's their biggest beach find.

Nice to learn about the identifying patterns in the teeth as well...

Thanks! :ighappy:
