Central Queensland trip

Mike from North Queensland

Recommended Posts

I recently travelled out to some private property that I and some friends fossick on -

Conditions of entry to property being basic - do not tell anyone else what property and identify that as the property any thing was found on.

Basically the land owner does not want people just walking onto the property.

Here are some as found and after prep photos of my best three finds of that trip.

Ichthyosaur vert is as found knew what it was when I saw it on the ground but could not believe no prep required because it was not imbedded into the matrix.

Elasmosaur cervical vert and Pterosaur metacarpal did need a bit of cleaning up though to make presentable.

These are the fossils that you can still find in Queensland Australia with a little luck and a lot of driving and footwork.

Enjoy Mike

Wow:

Terrific finds and a decent, sensible landowner too. :i_am_so_happy:

Spectacular finds! What's the size of these? Finding an ichthy vert just loose on the surface like that is a dream moment for sure.

Could the pterosaur bone actually be a radius or ulna?

Forgot to put a scale or dimensions on initial post.

Ichthyosaur (road Kill) 90mm both directions

Elasmosaur vert actual vert 50mm small neck vert near the elusive head.

Pterosaur bone 200mm long

I have added the largest Ichthyosaur vert I have found at this property it is 150mm wide so a large and well preserved specimen.

One of the friends I go fossicking with has a ichthyosaur vert 165 mm wide and that's the largest I have seen from Australia.
