Yoda
Hi All, I purchased this Australian Dicrodium recently. The previous owner had used some sort of press stick / tack to attach the label. When the fossil arrived, the label was loose in the packaging. But there was some residue on the fossil itself. I tried to very gently remove some of this, but it took up some of the underlying fossil as it came away. What is the best way of removing it, without damaging the underlying fossil? Anyone with experience with this? Thanks MotM August 2023 - Eclectic Collector
DPS Ammonite
Did you try to mechanically remove the adhesive or use a chemical solvent? Edited August 2, 2021 by DPS Ammonite My goal is to leave no stone or fossil unturned. See my Arizona Paleontology Guide link The best single resource for Arizona paleontology anywhere. DPS Ammonite
Yes. You can try it on the label first if you have copied the info. Try rubbing alcohol, acetone and Goo Gone. If it works on the label then try it on the fossil by lightly dabbing with a cotton lint-free rag soaked in solvent. RJB
Paint thinner. Much softer chemical than laquor thinner or acitone. I used to use lots of paint thinner and masking tape back in the day. Paint thinner cuts the glue from the tape like a breeze. We used to use laquor thinner to desolve dried paint! RB
Yoda
Will see if I get some time on the weekend to give this a go. Thanks for the advice MotM August 2023 - Eclectic Collector
Yoda
I used some solvent on a fine paint brush. the blob off the actually fern took some persistent rubbing, and came away. For The blob on the fern itself I was reluctant to use as much brushing, so did so only lightly. Not 100% clean, but way better than it was MotM August 2023 - Eclectic Collector
