I'm on holiday in Minehead England. I found this on the beach. The rock was black and crumbly. I broke it open and found this. Any idea if this is a fossil?

Hard to tell with the item wet, but it could possibly be a plant fossil or trace fossil.

Pictures of the item dry might help distinguish further.

Unfortunately, I didn't keep it. I'll keep an eye out for some more and try and dry it if I find one.
