Promicroceras large at 30mm ammonite which have been replaced with a golden calcite, collected from the Lyme Regis England. It is almost translucent and have been nicely prepared so that they display very well.

This is a big classic ammonite .The ammonite has been preserved in solid calcite. This Stephanoceras was discovered over 20 years ago from a temporary exposure on the outskirts of Sherborne.

Now here is one of the classic gift shop fossils In my opinion.

Aioloceras sp.

Lower Cretaceous

Madagascar

The shells often advertised as opal, which they are not but are aragonite which is a form of calcium carbonate. This type of aragonite is sometimes called nacre. Nacre appears iridescent because the thickness of the aragonite platelets is close to the wavelength of visible light. These structures

interfere with different wavelengths of light at different viewing angles, creating the beautiful  rainbow colours. Much like I believe a light prisms work .

Hard to capture true iridescent colour.

That's a nice one Bobby, not been tampered with like 99.9% of the ones you see out there. How long ago did you acquire it?

Is the ID correct? I found one with the exact same beautiful preservation and could not put my finger on an ID.

Cheers
