Frechiella Subcarinate

Northamptonshire uk

Very rare but ugly!  I do have a soft spot for it even if it had fallen out of the Ugly coral, and hit ever branch on the way down.

I love the picture postcards that accompany some of your finds, Bobby!

Thanks Adam most of my finds are from seaside holidays, so it felt right to accompany them with a postcard . I been collecting for about 30 years now so some of my ammonite are quite nostalgic to me.

This was given to me because I like old labels from old collections. For me the Label makes this specimen .

You are a old labels man yourself  then. I would have liked a collecting date on it.  :thumbsu:

I like the old labels when I see them (rarely, over here) too, and would try to never remove them even to update the info (maybe add another label or just a cat# and the newer info in the catalogue).

I thought about getting out my old typewriter to make some old-looking labels for some of my specimens but it wasn't working smoothly last time I used it, so, I dunno...

Personally I find old typewriter beautiful objects in themselves. That sounds like a good idea to me. You have to work hard to fake the typewriter font with a computer. Letters very slightly at times not lined up. Different ink tones coursed by the variable pressure of you’re fingers across the keys.

Yes. Did you catch a documentary called California Typewriter?

My grandpa had an old one with real character but I haven't seen it since he checked out... I think my uncle now has it. Wish I could use it.

The one I have is one of those slimmed-down portable units, and good news, I've got it working again. Wheeee!  :b_wdremel:

Now to decide whether to stick the labels onto my larger specimens, and how.

That fat ammonite is interesting... I have one fat ammo, from the Jurassic but I'm uncertain as to the locality (somewhere in BC in any case). I'll post a pic of it as soon as I find/take one.

EDIT: Found the old pics I posted elsewhere. It is somewhat squashed obviously!

Hildaites is a little ugly but  rare. If it was on it’s own it would not have been prepared. It turned out to be an interesting piece.

I enjoy this thread. Beautiful ammonites. Do you prep them yourself?

I have done in the past but we now don’t have the room for the tools. I now send my finds to friend to prep, I do a good deal with him . Thanks for your kind words
