Crystalline... Sponge? (Little Current, Manitoulin Island, Ontario)

Found along the shore of the North Channel at Little Current, Ontario.

 

Large, bumpy nodule which seems to be completely formed of (calcite?) crystals all the way through (I'm surprised by the multiple colours, but maybe that's normal?). I'm assuming it's a sponge, though wondering if someone could give a more specific ID or perhaps explain the crystallization seen here.

My guess is bryozoan. The monticules look quite similar to Constellaria sp.
