Pine cone

This was found in south Alabama. I frequently find petrified wood here but is this really a pine cone? There's a stem on top and you can see a center on the broken end. If so I’d be curious to know about how old it is. If not it’s a pretty cool rock.

I tend to think it might be a pine cone having seen alot of ironstone sidedrrite and occasional bits of lignite cones in the arundel formation in maryland  as to its age you need to look up the specfic lcationon a geological map.  It will be important in its id since conifers are old tree but not before triassic period,    I  also recommend showing your find to experts at a university or museum cin the area who will be familiar with the local rocks and fossils.

Silver picked this on a shopping trip today. No idea what or where it's from, but it has changed my perspective on the matter. I have to agree.
