Robski
Greetings I am a Geologist who works in Northern Alberta and B.C., and I have been finding some great Pleistocene Horse and Bison bones in river gravels. My bones were looked at and samples sent for Carbon dating through the provincial Museum and a Professor buddy of mine. The Horse bones were 22-25k years old and the Bison bone was 44k years old. They paid for the analyses and I am donating them to the Museum. All were found within a couple kilometers on the same river. I found these two this year. They were very close to where I found the Horse bones. Does anyone have any idea what animal they came from? (Can't get a hold of my buddy at the moment). The lower bone shows more wear from the gravels. Any Help would be appreciated. Best Regards Rob
Harry Pristis
A femur and a probable tibia. They seem too slender to be horse or bison. I'm thinking deer. If you provide a straight-on view of the distal end of the putative tibia, a view like the one below, we may be able to identify the taxon. 4 http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest

Best Regards Rob Well, Rob, this is not a tibia; this is a femur. Are they both femora? http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest

We need to see the left end of the bottom bone. @Robski 1 The human mind has the ability to believe anything is true. - JJ
Robski
Hello Yes the Previous photos were where the circles are. Unfortunately, the end on the Bottom bone is eroded badly. Doesn't look like it will be any help. Many Thanks Rob

It actually confirms @Harry Pristis identification of being a tibia. 1 1 The human mind has the ability to believe anything is true. - JJ
