Ben_M
I found this strange looking rock along the cliffs of Maslin Beach, South Australia. The beach is a fossil hotspot for shells but this doesn't look like a shell to me... Any idea what these strange lines are?

Plantguy
Very nice specimen! Hemipristis could be correct--something with those spirally arranged spires. I'm wondering since it looks like those are Eocene sediments there that it might be a nice cross-section thru a Turbin type gastropod...maybe something like a Guildfordia or maybe even one of Bolma. They've got some very serious spiked ornamentation but I'm just speculating! Continued hunting success! Regards, Chris
JesseKoz
Just over a year ago I moved just 20 minutes away from Maslin Beach, SA. I have visited the location a few times and there's interesting fossils and awesome geology around that area. I like @Plantguy's speculation, and could see this being some spiked/ornamented gastropod. After my previous few trips I hunted around online for some resources to help identify my finds. I'll share the links as you might either find it helpful for identification, or just an interesting read. The first link has a decent description of the geological setting of the area, and the second describes many of the mollusc species found.
