Soft Tissue fossil from Ithaca New York?

Hi!

I just moved to Ithaca New York, and while I was birding around Beebe lake, decided to make a little fossil stop on a rocky slope, I found this, which to me, looks bit like a soft tissue preservation, but any thoughts on it?

Just to be clear, the dark spot with the light border is the area in question

The problem is there is no structure to it, nothing that resembles any definite organism or piece of an organism.  Given that, it could just as well be (and almost certainly is) a mineral stain.

I have to agree, not seeing any structure.

Mineral staining is the only thing I can suggest here.

Cropped and brightened:
