SarahtheIchthyornis
Hi! I just moved to Ithaca New York, and while I was birding around Beebe lake, decided to make a little fossil stop on a rocky slope, I found this, which to me, looks bit like a soft tissue preservation, but any thoughts on it? SarahtheIchthyornis
Just to be clear, the dark spot with the light border is the area in question
FossilDAWG
The problem is there is no structure to it, nothing that resembles any definite organism or piece of an organism. Given that, it could just as well be (and almost certainly is) a mineral stain. Don
Kane
I think Don is correct that this is a mineral stain. ...How to Philosophize with a Hammer

Fossildude19
I have to agree, not seeing any structure. Mineral staining is the only thing I can suggest here.
